Leave a CommentAffiliate Partnership Enhances Application Developer’s Services, Offers Clients Greater Value
WINTER PARK, FL (December 9, 2008)…Atlantic Dominion Solutions (ADS), a leading developer of custom business applications, today announced an affiliate partnership with Rails performance management specialist New Relic. The move allows ADS to offer its clients the top monitoring tool for managing internal Ruby on Rails applications deployed onto “the cloud†(namely, the Amazon Web Services EC2 infrastructure).
New Relic’s RPM™ provides deep, real-time visibility of an application’s performance in a fully managed hosting situation without needing access to the server. Designed as a plug-in tool for Rails, RPM can easily be installed on an application in seconds for immediate monitoring and problem detection.
“Partnering with New Relic is great not just for ADS, but also for our clients,” said CEO Robert Dempsey. “Many organizations come to us for custom Rails applications deployed onto EC2, and we want to give them the very best application monitoring and management tools, like RPM.”
ADS uses Ruby on Rails to develop custom business applications that help companies improve internal processes and increase efficiency. To ensure these applications have the flexibility to scale on demand, ADS often deploys them onto EC2 via the Morph Application Platform. With deployment onto the cloud increasing, the company needed to offer clients a way to monitor the performance of apps’ without accessing the server. RPM, Dempsey says, was the obvious solution.
“We’re thrilled to have ADS as a charter member of our affiliate program,” said Bill Lapcevic, vice president of business development at New Relic. “They have long been an innovator in Rails development, and RPM will help ensure their forward-thinking applications always run at optimal performance levels.”
The partnership with New Relic is just the most recent step in ADS’ ongoing efforts to expand its service offering. Earlier this year, the company rolled out the ADS Catalyst rapid prototyping service and an Adobe Flex interface development service, ADS Vision. Dempsey expects that momentum to continue throughout next year as well.
“Wherever there is an opportunity to solve business problems for our clients and provide new, valuable technology solutions, ADS will eagerly pursue it.”

Leave a CommentWINTER PARK, FL (July 22, 2008) — Leading web development firm and Ruby on Rails specialist Atlantic Dominion Solutions (ADS) today announced it has become a development partner to Morph Labs, maker of an elastic deployment and management platform for Ruby on Rails applications deployed onto the Amazon Web Services EC2 infrastructure. The addition of the Morph Application Platform enables ADS to offer clients a faster, easier, and less expensive way to deploy their Rails apps onto EC2 without any management overhead.
For organizations that need to launch a flexible, scalable app quickly but don’t have the technology resources required to configure or manage an EC2 deployment, the Morph Application Platform is an ideal solution. By eliminating the need for custom configuration, the platform allows users to deploy a Rails app in less than 10 minutes. Once the app is up and running on EC2, the Morph platform allows it to be scaled up or down with a single click, and it also performs automatic backups to eliminate the possibility of data loss in the rare case of an infrastructure failure.
As a specialist in agile web development and Ruby on Rails applications, ADS regularly leverages the EC2 infrastructure to give clients the ability to scale their Rails apps on demand. By becoming a development partner to Morph Labs, ADS enhances their offering with a fast, hassle-free way to take advantage of EC2’s benefits right away.
“We are extremely excited about partnering with Morph Labs,” said Atlantic Dominion Solutions CEO Robert Dempsey. “As soon as we saw what their platform could do, we knew it was imperative to make it available to our clients.”
“The scalability of EC2 is fantastic,” Dempsey continued, “but configuring and managing the deployment can require time and resources that not every organization has. With the Morph platform our Rails customers can get their apps up on EC2 in minutes and start enjoying its flexibility without any management overhead or technical resources.”
ADS builds scalable, database-backed Rails applications for organizations of all sizes and provides several management services for deployments on Amazon Web Services. Now adding an efficient solution for the organizations that don’t want to manage the deployment at all, Dempsey says the company expects its new partnership to create a powerful new channel for increasing its customer base for application development.
“For clients that have a time-sensitive app to launch and don’t need a lot of options to configure, it’s really the perfect answer.”

Leave a Comment (3)WINTER PARK, FL (March 27, 2008)…Web development innovator Atlantic Dominion Solutions (ADS) today announced the introduction of a fully managed hosting solution designed specifically for Ruby on Rails deployments – ADS Mantis Hosting. Intended to provide the reliable stability and support lacking from some other virtual hosting options, the service provides complete hosting capabilities for Rails applications on virtual servers that ADS customizes to meet the unique needs of each application.
“We were hearing from a lot of people that they were frustrated by the instability of their virtual hosting service,†said ADS Project Director, Robert Dempsey. “It doesn’t matter how great your web app is if it’s down. So we set out to solve the problem ourselves, by delivering the flexibility and scalability of virtual hosting without the uncertainty around downtime, and with the added benefit of full support and management. I think ADS Mantis Hosting is well equipped to achieve that objective.â€
To help reach that goal, ADS partnered with Rails Machine for its high-quality hardware and network infrastructure. The combination of fully managed hosting from ADS and a reliable Rails Machine platform allows ADS Mantis Hosting to deliver 99.9% uptime and guarantee system resources are available whenever the application needs them.
“Partnering with Rails Machine allowed us to give our clients the reliability of rock-solid, proven hosting,” said Dempsey. “Their solutions are extremely efficient and provide the consistent uptime and stability needed to ensure peak performance for our clients’ Rails apps.”
Rails Machine’s CTO Dan Benjamin echoed Dempsey’s enthusiasm and saw the partnership as a great opportunity to collaborate with other forward-thinking developers to come up with solutions that benefit everyone using Ruby on Rails.
“We’re excited about partnering with a leading development company like ADS,” said Dan Benjamin, Rails Machine CTO. “ADS Mantis Hosting really takes advantage of our infrastructure to deliver our common goal – to make Ruby on Rails faster and easier to deploy.”
Ultimately, Dempsey sees ADS Mantis Hosting allowing organizations to maintain sophisticated web applications without any significant commitment of time and resources, allowing them to focus solely on their core business.
“The scalability offered by virtual hosting is obviously fantastic,” said Dempsey. “But at the end of the day what’s most important is performance and reliability, and it can be hard to find internal resources to dedicate to monitoring and managing your application. With ADS Mantis Hosting, our clients can have us do all the work for them and not waste a second worrying about the status of their web app.”

Leave a Comment (1)WINTER PARK, FL (December 19, 2007)…Web development innovator Atlantic Dominion Solutions (ADS) today introduced the only continuous monitoring and management solution for Rails apps deployed onto Amazon EC2 – ADS Mantis. Businesses can now use EC2 to scale on demand and still get the consistent, reliable, and personal service previously limited to traditional hosting solutions.
ADS Mantis combines dedicated 24×7 service with powerful management and monitoring tools from RightScale and FiveRuns, themselves leaders in Ruby on Rails and Amazon Web Services technologies. The only solution of its kind, ADS Mantis minimizes downtime by continuously monitoring EC2-deployed Rails apps, thus enabling the ADS team to prevent and, when necessary, quickly respond to issues.
“Clients had been asking us a lot about ‘EC2 hosting’ but there was really no precedent for it,” said ADS Project Director, Robert Dempsey. “We realized there was a big need for EC2 management and ADS is uniquely suited to provide such a service.”
EC2, part of the Amazon Web Services, provides virtual hosting using Amazon’s infrastructure – allowing businesses to scale their web applications up or down on demand and pay only for the capacity they use. But the flexibility and cost savings derived from Amazon EC2 do not come with the service and support normally included in traditional web hosting packages. To maintain the consistency and reliability required for the success of their web applications, businesses have often needed to hire additional IT staff to monitor and manage their deployments. ADS Mantis allows these businesses to realize maximum uptime without taking up valuable developer bandwidth or incurring the excessive costs of in-house staff.
“Rightscale is delighted to help ADS enable one-stop, personalized management and support for Rails on EC2 ,” said Michael Crandell, CEO of RightScale, an ADS partner. “With their ADS Mantis offering, ADS helps to deliver on the promise of cloud computing by adding a layer of managed services on top of Rightscale’s ability to launch and manage multi-server deployments.”
ADS partner FiveRuns, provider of the monitoring tool employed in ADS Mantis, was thrilled to get on board with the innovation in EC2 management. Dean Cruse, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for FiveRuns, talked about the opportunities afforded by the new service.
“We see tremendous momentum for EC2 within the Rails community, particularly due to its ability to scale on demand,” said Cruse. “However, businesses need to ensure their applications are performing properly in order to optimize their EC2 experience. FiveRuns welcomes the ADS Mantis solution for EC2 management and monitoring and we’re excited to be a part of the initiative to help EC2 customers manage, monitor and scale their applications.”
Dempsey echoed those benefits, and reiterated that the foundation of ADS Mantis is reliable personal service.
“EC2 is a flexible, powerful foundation for a great Rails app, and I highly recommend it to our clients” said Dempsey. “But not everyone has the manpower to manage it. With ADS Mantis, everyone can get the dedicated personal service necessary for their deployment and relax knowing their app is well taken care of.”
ADS Mantis offers three service levels for different deployment sizes. The Basic option monitors up to four concurrent virtual servers; the Plus level provides for up to eight servers and includes two hours of other premier services; and the Premium level works with up to 12 servers and includes four hours of premier services.
