BarCampOrlando 2008 was a brilliant success. There were more than 400 registrants for both Dev and Media day. On DevDay, the two rooms for talks were quickly filled with speakers and audience. A great thing to see were the Courtyard Discussions, made up of self-organizing groups discussing various topics and helping each other with challenges. Media Day wasn’t as packed, however, many conversations were spurred by the talks which focused on social media, the issues surrounding it, and emerging technologies.

The great thing about BarCampOrlando is that it is non-denominational. Everyone in the technology industry is welcome. This brings a lot of viewpoints that help me get an outside perspective, and also helps me learn about new things happening outside of the world of web development.

I am looking forward to the next BarCampOrlando, and hope to see you there.

One Response to “BarCampOrlando 2008 a Success”

At one point two british tourist (husband and wife) were walking by and looking at the presentation board schedule. They were talking out loud and trying to figure out what was going on, so I jumped in and told them all about barcamp and the concept. I must have spent 15 minutes with them. The husband did not do anything on the interent but the wife wanted to take her travel agency online. So I was telling her about how to do that and how she could learn from others on how to market herself and the website online. Luckily there was a presentation going on right then and there on using your blog as a newsletter. After explaining what a blog was & a newsletter, they decided to walk into the presentation and listen in on the talk. After words they came out and found me. I gave them my card and now they want me to help them get started. Funny how that turned out.

The downtown location was great and brought 2 of many off the street and into the mix! This is one of many stories I have of another successful barcamp!
